An Arcachon basin pinasse or pinassote is a small, flat-bottomed boat, initially powered by sail and oars, then by motor. It was traditionally used for fishing and oyster farming.
A cabane tchanquée is a wooden hut perched on stilts, typical of the Bay of Arcachon. The two cabanes tchanquées on Île aux Oiseaux, in the commune of La Teste-de-Buch, have become the emblem of the Basin and, along with the Dune du Pilat, are one of the most frequently depicted motifs in local tourist literature.
