Gujan-Mestras is particularly well known for its oyster-farming activities and its cultural heritage. Discover this rich heritage on one of our colourful guided tours.

La Hume in the Roaring Twenties

An isolated and economically poor district of Gujan-Mestras, La Hume nevertheless saw its situation change between the wars. Thanks to the impetus of Frédéric Lestrade, in less than a year it created a seaside resort that attracted more and more people.

The heyday of the Roaring Twenties brought a new dynamism to the resort and saw the emergence of new, previously unknown, places of pleasure. This little district, which had been forgotten until then, was to become an essential part of the Basin’s pleasures.

The Atlantic Wall

With the Gramasa association, enter the bowels of the 506d blockhouse, located at the entrance to the Parc de la Chêneraie. This park, steeped in history, is home to a fortress casemate for a 4.7cm anti-tank gun.
A rich and precious moment to share, because this blockhouse, completely restored, is unique in France.

The association ” Groupede RecherchesArchéologiquessur le Murde l’AtlantiqueSecteurArcachon” was founded in 2008 with the aim of:
-to study and promote the land, coastal and underwater sites of the Arcachon sector of the Atlantic Wall;
-to bring together individuals with an interest in the Atlantic Wall in this region;
-to act for the safeguard and the conservation of the movable and immovable vestiges relating to it;
-to act for the preservation of the underwater fauna and flora of the submerged sites;
-to contribute to the advancement of knowledge of the Atlantic Wall, by promoting the training of its members and the dissemination of scientific information to as wide a public as possible.
